Holy Men Monks were very religious. They prayed up to 10 times a day. Monks lived off the land by growing their own fruit & vegetables. Monks were great bee keepers giving them loads of honey Mead is an alcoholic beverage it was first made by monks. The word mead means honey wine

life Monks lived a very simple life. They wore simply clothes like robes and sandals. Monks had different roles in the monastery some were farmers some goldsmiths some librainians. There were many jobs for the monks. Monks were great teachers they kept good details about everyday life…teaching us today through history. Monks wrote the Book of Kells,which is now on display in Trinity College, Dublin.

Monasteries The monasteries were very busy Most monasteries were built near a river so they have fresh water and fish They had a mud, stone and wood walls to protect them The houses that the monks lived in were called cells. There was round towers in the monasteries. Viking raids were very common.
