SYSTEM FOR INTEGRATED MONITORING OF ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION IN EUROPE (SIMPLE) Andrzej Filipkowski, Warsaw University of Technology The proposed Network of Excellence (NoE) is an item of research of many institutions in Europe. Different pollutants in water, air and soil and noise are measured or monitored by different kinds of sensors and data obtained processed and visualised in different ways. Some pollutants are not monitored, there is a redundancy for others. This NoE should integrate the efforts of most institutions involved in the problem and give as an effect a unified system, broadly available, easy to maintain and understandable for most users. Sensors, measurements, data processing, visualisation can be standardised and generally available. It will create a tool for reaching the goals of theme of priorities of FP6, using the methods listed in priority The network will enable mutual contacts, exchange of experience, scientists and equipment, giving as an effect unified and integrated system with standard hardware and software. The effect will be important for national and regional environment authorities for easy monitoring of pollution.

SYSTEM FOR INTEGRATED MONITORING OF ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION IN EUROPE (SIMPLE) Andrzej Filipkowski, Warsaw University of Technology The following activities are possible in realising this NoE: 1.Exchange of experience in the environment monitoring area 2.Organising workshops, seminars and conferences 3.Editing printed and internet materials 4.Standardisation of sensors used for different purposes 5.Standardisation of software for processing data from sensors 6.Standardisation of data transmission methods 7.Standardisation of visualisation methods

SYSTEM FOR INTEGRATED MONITORING OF ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION IN EUROPE (SIMPLE) Andrzej Filipkowski, Warsaw University of Technology The main purposes of these activities are: 1.Integration of European knowledge in the area of environment monitoring 2.Making easy access to the data obtained by monitoring 3.Making software easy to use by not skilled users 4.Making visualisation of data understandable for everybody 5.Helping the national and regional authorities to keep the environment not polluted

SYSTEM FOR INTEGRATED MONITORING OF ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION IN EUROPE (SIMPLE) Andrzej Filipkowski, Warsaw University of Technology The following institutions expressed so far their interest in belonging to the network: 1. Warsaw University of Technology Warsaw, Poland, 2. Institute of Electron Technology Warsaw, Poland 3. Technical University of Lodz Lodz, Poland 4. VTT Helsinki, Finland 5. LAAS CNRS Toulouse, France 6. MICROSENS S.A. Neuchatel, Switzerland

SYSTEM FOR INTEGRATED MONITORING OF ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION IN EUROPE (SIMPLE) Andrzej Filipkowski, Warsaw University of Technology What is expected to do further? 1. Find more participants, in such a network I expect to find 50 interested institutions 2. Find a suitable co-ordinator (large and well known institution) 3. This co-ordinator with help of partners would write a proposal after December 16, 2002.
