Personality Intelligence Using different lenses to work with different personalities By the Crimson Crusaders

Personality Intelligence PI focuses on understanding the persona behind the person Focuses on four conceptual variables to understand our motivations and attitudes: Intellectual skills Personality types Social character and cultural diversity Identities Source Maccoby, Michael. "Understanding people in the knowledge workplace." Harvard Business Press Print.

Personality Intelligence These concepts provide a window to the self in which we can analyze some “below the water line” traits: Emotional attitudes Ways of working and relating to others Self identification Retaining information (how we learn and apply new information ) Sources: Maccoby, Michael. "Understanding people in the knowledge workplace." and “Becoming the leader we need, leveraging personality intelligence to lead in the knowledge economy Harvard Business Press Print.

Why is PI important in Org Behavior? A manager with a high PI is more self aware and able to identify motivations, strengths, weaknesses, goals, and emotions Understanding the personality types of superiors, subordinates, and peers is key to managing relationships and building effective teams

Why is PI important in Org Behavior? Behavioral psychologists agree there are five biologically influenced personality traits: Openness to new experiences Agreeableness vs. suspiciousness Emotional stability vs. instability Self-discipline (ability to stick with tasks for prolonged periods of time) Extraversion vs. introversion Understanding these traits is critical to creating a culture that promotes employee productivity and team cohesiveness

PI and Group Dynamics Understanding your personality type as well as that of others allows us to find common “below the water line” traits With this information we can decipher which lens to use in order to have an effective and positive relationship Valuing different personality types allows teams to celebrate the skills of their members and value diversity within the team

Understanding your Personality The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment is a psychometric questionnaire designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions Four dichotomies Extroversion vs. Introversion Sensing vs. Intuition Thinking vs. Feeling Judging vs. Perceiving
