Infrastructure Improvements Dependable infrastructure for CSUCI campus… Dave Chakraborty Director, Planning, Design & Construction

Master Plan Campus Buildout Master Plan 2024 Enrollment = 15,000 FTEs Master Plan To Building Area = 2.1M GSF 2007 Building Area = 550K GSF

The Problem with Our Infrastructure Electrical: 50+ year old system – ready to fail. Electrical system inadequate to serve future growth. Sewer pipes: Leaking – continuous maintenance problem. No cooling in buildings. Inefficient steam heating in buildings. Build data / telecom system ready for future growth. Deliver reclaimed water for irrigation. Domestic water and stormwater drainage adequate.

The Infrastructure Project New HVAC systems planned for Bell Tower, University Hall, Malibu Hall, and Solano Hall. New electrical ductbank and transformers. New telecom ductbank. Repair / replace sewer pipes. New reclaimed water irrigation piping and natural gas piping.

Project Data PCL is Contractor for the project. Project bids in March. Issue Construction NTP: April Construction Budget: $40 Million Encumbered funds spent by June 2010.

Construction Impacts

Vehicle traffic limited to one lane for extended periods of time. Pedestrian traffic limited to one sidewalk for extended periods of time. Sewer work: temporary sewer pipes and pumps will have to be installed above ground for extended periods of time. Electrical tie-ins: buildings will have to be powered by generators for days at a time. Building HVAC renovation in University Hall & Bell Tower: Noise interruptions during work in crawl space. Sections of buildings will have to be vacated for work inside the building (moving target). Telecom will be interrupted in buildings when data lines are being upgraded. Unscheduled utility interruptions resulting from accidents, and unforeseen hidden conditions.

Secondary Benefits Upgrade Central Mall – remove roads, and create pedestrian walkway(s). Upgrade street lights to energy-saving light fixtures. Add street lights to make campus safer. Replace sidewalks to satisfy ADA compliance requirements. Repair road surface, curbs and gutters.
