EDUC 260: Week 10

Overview Administrivia Assignment 4: WebQuest status Assignment 5: Tips Upcoming weeks Position Paper Activity Gaming video and discussion

Administrivia: Weekly Feedback Most significant –Review of Position Paper expectations –Completing the WebQuest was stressful Suggestion –More class time on Assignment #5 rather than the position paper

WebQuest Status Tonight Marks posted via WebCT Feedback ed to each student Gallery of WebQuests posted Keep any feedback on instructional design in mind for Assignment #5

WebQuest Feedback Overall, very interesting topics and very good work. Areas of improvement: –Explicit learning outcomes (from Ministry site) –Instructional design rather than web design –Tie the learning outcomes, task, process, resources and evaluation* together –(*i.e. was teamwork a learning outcome or a main one?)

Assignment 5: Tips Clearly identify your learning outcome(s). –Link to the appropriate place on the Ministry’s website. Come up with a solid outline of an activity. –The teacher and student resources you evaluate must be necessary to achieve the learning outcome. Answer all the questions on both evaluation forms fully (not just “yes” or “no”).

Assignment 5: Tips The evaluation criteria you develop for students must be tied directly to both –your learning outcome(s) and –the content within the online resource The evaluation criteria enables students to identify and evaluate components within the resource and helps them to achieve your specific learning outcome(s). Provide me with the title and url of all three teacher resources even though you evaluate only 2. Same with the 2 student resources.

Assignment #5: Tips For example, if your outcome is for students to learn the respiratory system: Evaluation criteria for students could include the extent to which diagrams help students in their learning or If there’s a self-quiz – does it cover all aspects of the respiratory system, etc. The evaluation criteria should not focus on an evaluation of the resource in itself, such as “the links work”, “is the information credible”, etc. You have already determined this in your evaluation of the resource.

Assignment 5: Tips Start in earnest now (if you haven’t already). Post questions in WebCT. See Stephanie between 1:30 and 2:30 next Thursday. Make the best use of your class time next week.

Upcoming weeks (3 more after today)…
