Introduction Michael de la Christopher Parlette Brian Ari

Abstract Blood glucose meters and Insulin pumps help patients to control Diabetes Current software used in conjunction with meters lack in features Make a software with more features and that is simple to use Software will help Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes patients Software will be available for Patients and Endocrinologists

Solution Software will allow Endocrinologists to store information about multiple Patients Software will allow patients to keep track of information at certain times of the day: 1) Blood Glucose level 2) Meal 3) Carbs 4) Units of Insulin taken Software will allow patients to view a graph of any particular day Final version of software will allow patients to view a graph for longer time frames. Software should be able to be run on low end computers that do not require frequent upgrades.

Prototype Ari and Mike will give a demo of the application for: Logging in as a Patient Logging in as a Physician

Tests Test Users: People of different age groups People that have different levels of experience with operating software Some users were male, some female Diabetes patients and patients with minimal knowledge of Diabetes Test Structure Each user was asked to perform 5 tasks as a patient and 5 as a physician Users were asked to rate 10 aspects of the software on a scale from 1 to 100 Users were given a key for the meaning of 1 and 100 for each rating Users were asked to give additional suggestions Average scores were computed for each rating area

Test Results 1) Navigating around the program80 2) Overall design93 3) Learning Curve86 4) Graphing technique51 5) Speed99 6) Patient Information83 7) Graph Information77 8) Comfort level91 9) Product Idea96 10) Likelihood of purchase75 Average Product Rating:83

Conclusion Future Work: Automatic transfer of data from meter to PC Central database for storage with remote logins for patients and doctors Extra options throughout the application Acknowledgements: Special thanks to Dr. Shneiderman for his extensive knowledge on user interfaces and motivating us to apply our skills for a good cause Thanks to Georg Apitz for his instruction on Flash Thanks to test users for providing feedback * Best of wishes to diabetic patients and families!
