Aims and Objectives To introduce the concept of embedding objects within web pages To show how Active X can be used to create interactive web pages

Active X An updated version of OLE (object linking and embedding) Devised by Microsoft Allows the functionality of different applications to be embedded into web pages, e.g. Excel

Using Active X in a Web Page Active X controls Active X documents Active X scripting

Advantages of Active X There are a wide range of controls available compared with Java applets and browser plugins. They can be used in applications and programming environments as well as the browser.

Disadvantages of Active X It is a Windows specific technology. There are security issues - it is not as secure as Java. To get the “full Active X experience” you need to use Internet Explorer.
