UFS works with Board of Trustees and System Administration on General Education Operations Committee works with System Administration on Library and Technology issues Link to campus level governance Role of the University Faculty Senate (UFS)

Define what’s necessary to meet Board of Trustees General Education requirements Compile “best practices” to assist campuses in meeting the Information Management competency Goals

What exactly is Information Management (IM)? In what classes or other pedagogical approaches should IM be taught? What advantages accrue to us as librarians to take the lead role in teaching IM? How can we work at the campus level to establish IM guidelines? How can we assess IM? Other Questions??? Issues to Resolve

Perform the basic operations of personal computer use; Understand and use basic research techniques; and Locate, evaluate, and synthesize information from a variety of sources What exactly is Information Management (IM)? SUNY GE

What exactly is Information Management (IM)?

Separate credit bearing course taught by the Library? Separate credit bearing course taught by another dept.? Part of Learning Community? Infused in another course ? In what classes or other pedagogical approaches should IM be taught?

Real faculty instructor status? Demonstrate our expertise to the campus? Maintain the critical role of the Library in the “Google” age? Other faculties already assume we teach IM? What advantages accrue to us as librarians to take the lead role in teaching IM?

Campus Faculty Senate? Campus General Education Committee? Establish criteria for other departments interested in teaching IM ? How can we work at the campus level to establish IM guidelines?

Taught in credit bearing course? Exit exam for all students? Multiple choice? Practical demonstration exam? Other measures to demonstrate IM competency? How can we assess IM?

Other Questions to Solve??
