How Does Senate Legislation Formally Enter the Handbook? 1.A resolution is passed by Senate a)The content is determined to affect the Handbook and the relevant section of the Handbook is reworded and the revision is voted by the Senate. b)Not all resolutions affect the Handbook, but may result in changes in policies and procedures. c) If the resolution affects the Senate Bylaws, there is a full faculty ballot.

2. Resolutions receive the approval of the President (until 2008); or the Provost (after 2008) in consultation with the President. 3. The Board of Trustees approves resolutions, which may be Handbook resolutions or may be resolutions affecting policies and procedures not included or recommended for inclusion in the Handbook.

Specific Charge to Provost 1.Update last formal Handbook ( version) for all Handbook resolutions which have passed ALL levels of approval since Revise Handbook for necessary changes such as quarters to semesters, changes in the names of departments, and changes in organizational structure.

Auditing Process for This Revision 1.Provost’s Office modularizes 2000 Handbook in web-based version. 2.Professional editor checks footnotes, sections, wording, etc. 3.Senate Handbook Committee members (3) individually read modules in comparison with 2000 Handbook. 4.Issues are related to Provost’s Office for correction.

5.A revised modular, web-based Handbook is made available to SAC. 6.SAC members review the Handbook. 7.All resolutions passed since 2000 are divided among SAC members to ensure their placement in new Handbook. 8.All issues are resolved, with five resolutions remaining to send to the BOT.

Research Policy Oversight Committee (Part of Bylaws revision passed by university faculty but part of 2005 Handbook not approved at President’s level) 3.Workload policy (Passed at all levels and in effect; however, not written originally as a Handbook resolution.)

4.Merit Review Process (Passed at all levels except BOT and in effect.) 5.Summer Compensation (Passed at all levels except BOT and in effect.)

CAVEAT The content of the five following resolutions was previously approved by the Senate and is not brought to the floor with the intention of further debate by this body. The resolutions are presented as informational and to restate the importance of their continuing through the approval process specifically for inclusion in the Handbook.
