Frank L. H. WolfsDepartment of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester SLC Meeting July 23, 2003 Topics to be discussed: SLC update: competition? Budget: final numbers Investigators: we need more investigators Proposal: layout Missing information Next meetings

Frank L. H. WolfsDepartment of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester SLC Meeting Competition During the meeting with the Dean of the College of the U of R we found out that the BCS group of the U of R will submit a full center proposal. We do not know anything about the proposal from BCS at this point. However, we assume that the BCS proposal is a very narrowly focused proposal. There is no limit on the number of proposals that can be submitted from any single institution, these proposals will be coupled (e.g. if the BCS proposal is accepted, will the NSF award us a catalyst?)

Frank L. H. WolfsDepartment of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester SLC Meeting Budget Dov Almog, Mark Bocko, and Frank Wolfs met with Dean Slattery (Dean of Research) and Dean LeBlanc (Dean of the Faculty) to discuss the overhead on the catalyst proposal. The following decisions were made: There will be no overhead on the $125,000 allocated for the mini- grants. We should examine what adjustments can be made to make the budget add up to $250,000. The College Dean’s office will provide partial administrative support to this project.

Frank L. H. WolfsDepartment of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester SLC Meeting Budget Final budget: Funds for mini-grants unchanged: $ 125,000. Funds for workshop and conferences unchanged: $ 44,000. Funds for travel unchanged: $ 28,000. Funds for administrative costs cut in half to cover the overhead cost. Total budget: $249,952

Frank L. H. WolfsDepartment of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester SLC Meeting Proposal: Layout The first draft of the proposal (with several sections still missing) was distributed on Monday. Before discussing the detailed comments we should review the general layout of the proposal. At this point, I have received detailed comments from 3 people. I really need feedback from all of you!
