Special Report NuMI Target Updates Special Report NuMI Target Updates Ongoing Work - Four Parallel Activities I.Target Hall We expect to move NT-05 to morgue and ready target module for new target starting 03/17 Current target hall activities are not on the critical path II.Autopsy of NT-05 in Target Hall Workcell Significant progress since last’s weeks presentation- will be presented in subsequent slides- autopsy results are complete Internal water circuit leak is in the location we identified while considering NT-03 and NT-04 failures and are associated with the internal water circuit downstream water turnaround-No other leak sites detected III.Reclaim NT-02 as a contingency spare Good News: Pressure test results indicate NT-02 is still leak tight on the water and canister He volume circuit Bad News: Z-drive motion is likely compromised in perhaps a couple of locations ALARA plan to address slipping couplers and bearings blocks in progress- may take ~2 weeks of effort to reclaim z-drive motion (if possible) IV.NT-06 Retrofit Work has started to extract the target core from the target canister- this involves cutting welds and target core support fixturing which is a bit tricky– initial efforts are progressing with good results Kris Anderson 14-Mar-2011 Kris Anderson 14-Mar-2011

Special Report NuMI Target Updates Special Report NuMI Target Updates Estimated Key Dates-Nominal Scenario I. NT-02 Path (Contingency Target) NT-02 is leak tight but status of z-drive reclamation is still TBD Likely to take about weeks of effort to define and implement procedure to assess and return z-drive mechanism to operational status; Estimate z-drive recovery 3/25 if repairable II. NT-06 Path Estimate for NT-06 rework completion 3/31 (could be a few days sooner if no problems are encountered)- good progress to date Expect significant progress this week Install NT-06 in carrier, survey and final QA complete 4/8 Complete installation of NT-06 into chase, beam scan, ready for normal beam operation: Monday 4/18/2011 Key Dates
