We assume you have already installed Audacity and are now ready to save your first compressed MP3 recording.
Download and install the LAME MP3 encoder 1. Go to: 2.scroll down to here: 3.Click here To download 4.Run the installer, following the directions. Remember the directory you install LAME in. The default is: C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity
Save a file, exporting it as an MP3
The first time you save an MP3 file, Audacity will display this dialog box: Click on Yes then locate the LAME file, lame_enc.dll that you downloaded previously.
Navigate to lame_enc.dll and click Open In my case, lame_enc.dll was in the directory: C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity. 1 2
This dialog box let’s you describe the file before it is saved
That is it – Audacity will automatically export MP3 files in the future
