Audacity setup, installing the LAME MP3 encoder Internet concepts –Applications –Technology (TCP/IP) –Implications for Individuals Organizations Society Internet skills –Application development –Content creation Text Images Audio (configure Audacity) Video

We assume you have already installed Audacity and are now ready to save your first compressed MP3 recording.

Download and install the LAME MP3 encoder 1. Go to: 2.scroll down to here: 3.Click here To download 4.Run the installer, following the directions. Remember the directory you install LAME in. The default is: C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity

Save a file, exporting it as an MP3

The first time you save an MP3 file, Audacity will display this dialog box: Click on Yes then locate the LAME file, lame_enc.dll that you downloaded previously.

Navigate to lame_enc.dll and click Open In my case, lame_enc.dll was in the directory: C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity. 1 2

This dialog box let’s you describe the file before it is saved

That is it – Audacity will automatically export MP3 files in the future
