Weather Effects People in…… Ocean City Maryland By: Shelly Jackson

What is the climate of O.C. ?  Ocean City is located in a region that has four distinct seasons.  The seasons are moderate.  The lives of the people of O.C. fluctuate greatly as a result of the weather. The location of Ocean City plays a large role in its weather patterns.

What is the Weather in O.C.?  Our local television news stations provide weather information about Ocean City.  her/ her/  National weather stations also keep track of the weather in Ocean City. 

There is a season…….

 Lows in the 30’s  Highs in the 40’s  4-5 inches of snow  4-5 inches total precipitation  her/etc/statistics.cfm her/etc/statistics.cfm

What’s up in Ocean City in the

Not Much!!!  Since there is little snow, travel is always easy in the winter in Ocean City.  The population is greatly decreased as hundreds of thousands of tourist leave. A sigh of relief to many locals.  Some of the traffic lights in Ocean City are even switched to blinking lights, to speed travel for the sparse number of O.C. locals.  With the cold, recreation activities switch from swimming and sun bathing to jogs and walks on the board walk and other indoor activities.

Winter continued…….  Many of the lights on the highways are turned off.  Animals are allowed on the beach with their owners.  Many locals prefer the low key, more relaxed environment.  It is quiet !!!!!

What’s up in Ocean City in the

Things start to perk up !  Local businesses are preparing for the approaching tourist season.  Tourists start to dwindle into town.  O.C. locals host Spring-Fest, a festival to attract tourists.  The traffic lights are switched back to stop lights.  While it is still to cold for the ocean, sun bathers start to emerge.

 Lows is the 60’s  Highs in the 80’s – 90’s  6-8 inches of rain  Hurricanes are a possibility  Very humid conditions  etc/statistics.cfm etc/statistics.cfm

What’s up in Ocean City in the

Everything!  The town is hopping with tourists from far and wide.  Many locals spend as much time as possible in their homes, to avoid crowds.  For some locals this is their favorite time of year.  Sun and surf… The beaches are packed with locals and tourists soaking up the sun and enjoying the ocean.  The amount of traffic increases dramatically, making it difficult to get on and off the island, and to get from place to place.

And More !!!!  Hotels and motels are full of visitors.  The economy is booming.  Jobs are very plentiful, so much so that people from other countries are hired to come in and fill them.  With the addition of the tourists, O.C. becomes Maryland’s 2 nd largest city.

What’s up in Ocean City in the

The Wind Down Begins  Sun-fest is a festival that draws in tourists for one more big weekend.  The temperatures cool down and people opt to walk on the beach instead of swim in the ocean.  Weather watchers scan the eastern seaboard for signs of a hurricane.  Many restaurants cut back to only weekends, making it harder for the locals to dine out during the week.  A sense of calmness and quiet returns to the area.

Weather Effects People in Ocean City  The residents of O.C. have drastically different lives season to season.  The influx of tourists effects everything from economics to mood swings.
