Dance and Technology A curriculum created by: Kristina Martinez Seminar in Dance Education Koff, Fall 2010

Philosophy: The philosophy behind this curriculum is for students to discover innovative ways of learning, an stay current with the ever advancing technology of our time. Incorporating technology into artistic curriculums is crucial because there must be a balance between the academic and artistic. “Art as creative expression has its source within man’s physical, mental, and emotional structure; dance therefore is the heritage of all mankind” (H’Doubler,1940).

Population 12th grade Seniors that have previously taken technique in ballet, modern, and jazz Since this is an elective class the students are chosen based on merit The must commit to both semesters

Purpose To create a digital portfolio To incorporate an integrated curriculum To enhance versatility To introduce new ways of learning choreography through multi media

Rationale: Dance is being influenced by technology on stage, in classrooms, through curriculums and beyond. Incorporating multifaceted versions of technology to dance has shown choreography in a different light. The fusion of dance and technology has numerous pedagogical benefits. Digital portfolios can be created to showcase and display work of future choreographers and dance makers.

Aim: Students will use an integrated curriculum to develop a new way of learning and appreciating choreography through multi-faceted versions of technology.

Goal: The students will create versatility through multi-media that transcends physical boundaries and experience new, creative processes.s

Objectives:  Students will use technology as a tool to learn choreography.  Students will demonstrate efficient ways of learning the choreography.  Students will be able to learn, retain and perform choreography they learned through different forms of media.
