THE NEW IPAD Cami Velasquez
What is an iPad? It is a tablet computer made by Apple Inc. that was released on April 3, It has a high definition 9.7 inch touchscreen, and, since it works with the iPhone operating system, it runs the programs from the Apple Store. It allows the user to connect to WiFi.
How does it work? To create the iPad, Apple had to create an operating system. It changed the applications available for the iPhone to make them work for the new device. Like the iPhone, you operate it by touching the screen. The iPad´s screen can rotate, so you can either use it in portrait or landscape mode. It has a built in Safari, allowing the user to surf the web in the same way they did with the iPhone.
It can only do one thing at a time, since it is not a multitask computer. To type, you have to use the onscreen keyboard, but you can also purchase a physical keyboard for long documents. It is the first product that uses A4. The iPad basically uses the same features the iPhone uses, but in a larger form.
The iPad and the iPod Although both names sound quite similar, they are actually extremely different. The iPod is a device used only to playback videos, music and photos. There is a very limited number of applications or features. The iPad, on the other hand, allows the user to access the Internet, use an account, chat, and several other things, while still being able to play back music and video.
Can an iPad replace computers? An iPad can not and certainly will not replace a computer. First of all, it is not multitask, largely limiting what a user can do. It also has a smaller memmory, and does not have a hard disk. This makes it impossible to save documents. An iPad also lacks USB and disk ports, so it can not be connected to a printer or scanner. All in all, the iPad is an entertainment device, while computes can serve that purpose and also be useful for work.
Would you buy an iPad? I think I wouldn´t buy an iPad. This is because it is much more limited than a regular computer. It does not provide enough benefits to justify paying for it, since it is extremely expensive. Most of its features, as previously stated, can be found in any PC. The fact that it is portable, and has a touchscreen that can rotate are interesting, though not enough to compel me to buy it.
