Auto - Drive An Automated Driving Range

Team Members Mike Loiselle Jared Beland Jeremy Paradee

Problem Statement To design and build an automated driving range that will improve the ranges’ efficiency and user friendliness.

Problem Solution Bill / coin acceptor to determine number of balls to dispense. Ball dispensing system to hold and transfer balls to lifting system. Lifting system to tee up golf balls. Sensors to determine when user inputs money, when balls are present on tee up system, and when ball has been hit off tee.

Money Acceptors 1)Dollar Bill Acceptor ( $1, $5, & $10 ) 2)Dollar Bill Acceptor ( $1 ) 3) Coin / Quarter Acceptor ( $ 0.25 )

Team Auto-Drive Dollar Bill Acceptor ( $1, $5, & $10 ) Pros: Can use a variety of bills Cons: Expensive Must have a bill / change return for larger bills

Team Auto-Drive Dollar Bill Acceptor ( $1 ) Pros: Do not need a bill / change return for large bills Cons: Expensive Cannot use a variety of bills

Team Auto-Drive Coin / Quarter Acceptor Pros: Cheap Doesn’t need a bill changer Cons: Cannot use bills

Golf Ball Dispensers 1)Revolver System 2)Hopper 3)Hopper / Vacuum System

Team Auto-Drive Revolver System

Team Auto-Drive Revolver System Pros: No ball jams Each tube contains (# balls / dollar) Cheap Cons: Limited to # of balls per tube Must fill tubes several times per day

Team Auto-Drive Hopper

Team Auto-Drive Hopper Pros: Can hold large numbers of balls Fill once per day Cheap Cons: Balls can easily jam Needs sensors to count (# balls / dollar)

Team Auto-Drive Hopper / Vacuum System

Team Auto-Drive Hopper / Vacuum System Pros: Store large numbers of balls Balls will not jam Cons: Expensive Needs sensors to count (# balls / dollar)

Tee Up Systems 1)Pneumatics (Air Cylinder & Pump) 2)Solenoid & Lever 3)Rack & Pinion / Motor

Team Auto-Drive Pneumatics (Air Cylinder & Pump)

Team Auto-Drive Pneumatics (Air Cylinder & Pump) Pros: Can control lifting speed Easy to turn on & off Cons: Expensive Need pump for air supply Large

Team Auto-Drive Solenoid & Lever

Team Auto-Drive Solenoid & Lever Pros: Easily Controlled Cheap Small Cons: Lift speed is too fast

Team Auto-Drive Rack & Pinion / Motor

Team Auto-Drive Rack & Pinion / Motor Pros: Cheap Can control lift speed by motor Small Cons: Need program to control motor speed

Choices For System Dollar Bill Acceptor ( $1 ) Revolver System Rack & Pinion / Motor
