NADIIIAA Round Table Conference and Institutional Practices Related to the Involvement of Senior Woman Administrators

Senior Woman Administrators Do you have an SWA on your campus? Who is that person and what is their role? What practices do you use to fully utilize your SWA? What are the challenges associated with recognition for the SWA? Is the role of the SWA understood by the various constituencies on your campus?

NADIIIAA Round Table Working Effectively with Faculty Athletic Representatives

Faculty Athletic Representatives How do you ensure that the student- athletes know who the FAR is? How is the FAR included in all pre-season eligibility meetings? How do you ensure that your coaches and the FAR are working together? Does the FAR attend athletic department meetings?

Faculty Athletic Representatives How do you ensure that the FAR is involved in institutional discussions regarding the conference and the NCAA? How do you ensure that the FAR is involved in institutional discussions regarding proposed NCAA legislation? What practices exist to provide the FAR with a budget for travel to the Fall Forum and the NCAA Convention?

Faculty Athletic Representatives How does the FAR keep the faculty informed on matters related to athletics? Does your athletics department have an Athletics Leadership Team, and if so, is the FAR involved?

Questions for Consideration What is the organizational relationship between Athletics and Student Affairs? To what extent does the chief student affairs officer on your campus fill what might be termed the role of “presidential oversight” or involvement with athletics? Does the athletic director, senior woman administrator, or other representative participate in regularly scheduled student affairs departmental or divisional meetings?

Questions for Consideration Is the Athletic Department included in programming conducted by various student affairs departments — e.g., orientation, student activities, health services, residential life, counseling, …? What kinds of vehicles do you use to build relationships with various student affairs offices — broadcast , newsletters, staff orientation, co-programming, …? Does athletics interact directly with student groups that come under the student affairs umbrella — e.g., fraternities and sororities, student government, program boards, clubs,…? How are these interactions facilitated?

Questions for Consideration Are student affairs officers involved in the governance of your athletic conference? How? What are the benefits or challenges of such involvement?
