Plagiarism When you cite or use the work of other people in your text, without mentioning that you have done that. “the act of taking the writings of another person and passing them off as one's own. The fraudulence is closely related to forgery and piracy—practices generally in violation of copyright laws…” (Encyclopeadia Britannica Online 2009)

Citations When you refer to the works of other people in your text, the text must be followed by a reference list with more details about the sources.

Author-Date (e.g. Harvard style) When you quote, use the author’s last name, year and the pages e.g. ” quoted text ” (Wilson 2006, p. 66). When referring to the author’s name in your text just add the year e.g. … according to Wilson (2006) it is…
