Incubator Specifications - The incubator must have a cost under $.15/square inch of screen area –The incubator must have the capacity to handle 10 grams of initial infestation media –The incubator must have access to internal components for sanitation between cycles. –The incubator must have a component to collect wanted media and this component must be removable.

Separator Specifications - The separator must be able to separate 500 grams of usable media from foreign media in 1 hour. - The separator must use a dry separation technique. - The separator must be able to run for 4 hours without maintenance. - The separator must produce 95% pure usable media. - The separator must accumulate the wanted media in removable container.

Key Issues Researched Needs of Moth/Moth Eggs Design Options for Collection of Eggs Different Methods of Separation Materials to Minimize Costs

Drum Incubator

Hanging method of barrel to stand (angle brackets) For the screens: hook and chain spacing, rails that hold base (welded to barrel), and square wood frame (ease to make, inexpensive) Rigid Advantages of Drum Incubator

Drum Incubator: Disadvantages Square to Circle fits (barrel to square cone to circular lid) Plexiglas is difficult to work with, time consuming Hard to load trays (top loading only) Cost is high

Wooden Funnel: Evaluation Advantages Construction requires no welding/metal cutting (low labor time). Lightweight (no metal parts). Easily enlarged or reduced in size without constraint or large cost changes. Minimal materials Disadvantages Hanging Screens (time to attach and hang) and top loading only. Visquine/Wood attachment (staples) may falter over time. Due to funnel, system may not be easily stacked.

Iron Door

Iron Door: Cost Estimated Time to construct is 7 hours

Iron Door: Evaluation Advantages Professional Appearance Efficient use of space (Square) Stackable Disadvantages Equipment used to build is expensive High Fabrication skill level required Special Equipment needed to construct

Multi-Unit

Multi-Unit: Cost Estimated Time to construct is 6 hours

Multi-Unit: Evaluation Advantages  High capacity  Low cost relative to volume  Material availability is good Disadvantages  Not easily moved  Shelf removal might be difficult  Containment might be compromised

CanCan
