BalloonSat “Optimism Prime” Team “Thumbs Up” Conceptual Design Review Nick Lenk, Greg Nelson, Eddie Cyrus, Jake Varey, Chase Pritchett, Brian Inglis 9/23/08

Mission Overview The BalloonSat “Optimism Prime” shall ascend to an altitude of approximately 30,000 meters in order to measure the intensity of light as a function of altitude, the acceleration of the satellite during the flight, the inside and outside temperatures, and the humidity to better understand the conditions of “near space.” We are doing this project because we are curious of how the sun’s intensity increases as a satellite approaches “near space.”

Design: Parts Foam Core: m 2 Insulation: m 2 2 x HOBO data logger – Voltage measurement cable – Accelerometer – External Temperature Sensor 6 x Photodiode 2 x Solar Panel Digital Camera Cable Heater Batteries (3 x 9V, 2 x 1.5V, 2 x 3V)
