Musicfest Facts Of the approximately 3000 bands who performed at the 30 preliminary festivals across Canada in 2010, 545 received an invite to Nationals; roughly 18% received an invitation. Of these 545 that received an invite, 116 actually attended the festival. It is a very competitive festival in nature; there is an adjudication, clinic, and many concerts going on throughout the week. Of the approximately 3000 bands who performed at the 30 preliminary festivals across Canada in 2010, 545 received an invite to Nationals; roughly 18% received an invitation. Goals & Objectives To provide an opportunity for students and educators from across Canada and elsewhere to meet and to demonstrate and to share their musical achievements and creativity. To evaluate and reflect on musical achievement and creativity in a constructive and educationally focused way. To encourage the study and performance of music written and arranged by Canadian composers. To complement and enhance the teaching, learning and growing process. To foster and promote a lifelong interest in music as a basic human experience. To provide an opportunity for students and educators from across Canada and elsewhere to meet and to demonstrate and to share their musical achievements and creativity. To evaluate and reflect on musical achievement and creativity in a constructive and educationally focused way. To encourage the study and performance of music written and arranged by Canadian composers. To complement and enhance the teaching, learning and growing process. To foster and promote a lifelong interest in music as a basic human experience.

Ensemble Standards A Gold Standard signifies that an ensemble has achieved excellence in all facets of its performance. A Silver Standard signifies that an ensemble is demonstrating an exceedingly high standard of musical performance. A Bronze Standard signifies an above average quality of performance with latitude for improvement. The above three standards are recognized with a plaque. A Merit Standard acknowledges an average quality of performance and is not recognized by a plaque. A Gold Standard signifies that an ensemble has achieved excellence in all facets of its performance. Attendance Continued Next school year, students in Band 10G-40S (grade 9-12) will be eligible to attend. Students who didn’t participate at the Optimist Festival in 2011 would need to complete a playing/performance assignment to qualify along with those who attended. Fundraising Every student/family would need to fundraise. Any student/family choosing not to fundraise at any/all the events would be responsible for paying total cost of tour before fundraising is taken into account.
