Week 3 IT5 Describing ‘does’ with ‘how’

This teacher led activity aims to show how children can describe verbs more fully by adding a ‘How’ word (adverb) to the ‘Does’ (verb) word. The children are shown that the ‘How’ word can fit in the sentence: Jack cooks perfectly (Who) (Does) (How) As each of these titles come in, a picture appears to illustrate them. Examples of 2 sentences, where the ‘How’ is missing, are then displayed in the presentation and the teacher discusses with the children which type of word fits where, and why. Children have an answer sheet containing the 2 examples and the task sentences (see next slide) which need to be printed off prior to the lesson and distributed. Children have a choice of three words to either tick or cross on their sheet. They fill this in after each question on the slide show and a pencil appears in the slide to remind them to write before the next slide. For each question, after the children have made their answer and discussion has taken place, prompted by the ‘why?’, they receive feedback on screen with the tick/cross format.
