Program Introduction  Welcome - why does this exist? u Dynamic dating & pacing classes u Financial aid & costs s u Communication

Why does this exist? u Arizona Geographic Alliance ( members requested a program where student work was focused on improving their geography teachinghttp://alliance.la.asu.edu/azga/ u ABOR grant provided funding for initial course development u Innovative thinkers in Colleges of Education u Support of geographers at ASU, UofA and NAU

Dynamic Dating vs. Semesters u ASUs world is semester-based (registration, financial aid, everything) u Semesters don’t work for teachers … so we have quarters attached to semesters

Quarters are for your workload Fall Summer &Fall Fall Spring

Pacing u Can be much slower. Graduate College keeps you a graduate student with just 1 class a semester [but this pace may not make you eligible for financial aid] u How fast is limited only by COE 501 only in the Fall and SED 593 only in the Spring

Financial Aid & Costs u Financial aid questions ONLY through official FA offices… (ASU Downtown & Polytechnic easiest to reach)

Cost Frustrations - in state u 7+ free reason to ‘bundle’ classes u We keep book costs down AMAP

Cost frustrations - out of state u 1.5 in state tuition, but no bundling u We realize not competitive, AT ALL

Communication u Face-to-face is always best. Will meet in person for coffee, for you to look at alliance maps & discuss, when students request gatherings (e.g. before 674 starts, before break for summer) u Discussion boards requested by you u u Set up time to phone you u Other ideas? Please let us know!

Our website u u Password protected -- all the same login: gcu600 pw: gaia

u Limit of 2 GB

u Look at a directory, everything is transparent

Can also help you find papers & store them

In the end … this must be u Where every hour you spend is worth your time u Where every assignment can be adapted to meet your educational setting u Where we lay out resources for you to use u Where, at the end, you are producing new ways to thinking about geographic education through your capstone class & through your various in-class project u Where you grow professionally

u Suggested by faculty, students, other institutions u Resource to “surf” for GCU 671 thinking about projects
