CONTINUATION OF TYPES OF LIFE SUPPORT MACHINES

HEART/LUNG BY PASS CARDIOPULMONARY BY PASS(CPB) IS A TECHNIQUE THAT TEMPORARILY TAKES OVER THE FUNCTION OF THE HEART AND LUNGS DURING SURGERY. IT HELPS TO KEEP THE BLOOD AND THE OXYGEN CONTENT OF THE BODY FLOWING. IT IS KNOWN AS A HEART LUNG MACHINE OR THE PUMP.

HEART/LUNG BY PASS

URINARY CATHETERIZATION IN URINARY CATHETERIZATION OR “CATHING”, A PLASTIC TUBE KNOWN AS A URINARY CATHETER IS INSERTED INTO A PATIENT’S BLADDER THROUGH THEIR URETHRA. THIS ALLOW THE PATIENT’S URINE TO DRAIN FREELY FROM THE BLADDER FOR COLLECTION OR TO INJECT LIQUIDS USED FOR TREATMENT OR DIAGNOSIS OF BLADDER CONDITIONS. DIALYSIS WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE KIDNEY? THE PURPOSE OF THE KIDNEY IS TO FILTER HARMFUL CHEMICALS FROM OUR BLOOD. WHEN THE LIVER FILTERS(cleans the blood), IT MAKES URINE, WHICH IS THEN FLUSHED OUT OF YOUR BODIES. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE KIDNEY? THE PURPOSE OF THE KIDNEY IS TO FILTER HARMFUL CHEMICALS FROM OUR BLOOD. WHEN THE LIVER FILTERS(cleans the blood), IT MAKES URINE, WHICH IS THEN FLUSHED OUT OF YOUR BODIES.

HOW MANY KIDNEYS DO WE HAVE? WE HAVE TWO KIDNEYS. WE CAN LIVE WITH ONE KIDNEY. HOWEVER, WHEN BOTH KIDNEYS ARE SHUT DOWN(STOP WORKING), KNOWN AS RENAL FAILURE, ONE HAS TO USE THE DIALYSIS TO DO WHAT THE KIDNEY WOULD HAVE DONE – OTHER WISE THE PATIENT WOULD DIE.

HOW IS THE DIALYSIS USED? THERE ARE TWO MAIN TYPES OF DIALYSIS: THEY ARE 1.HEMODIALYSIS: A PATIENT’S BLOOD RUNS INTO A LARGE MACHINE THAT FILTERS THE BLOOD AND RETURNS IT TO YOUR BODY. 2.PERITONEAL DIALYSIS: THIS IS A TUBE CALLED A CATHETER IS PUT INTO THE PATIENT’S BELLY, AND SPECIAL FLUID IS USED TO FILTER THE BLOOD

IN HEMODIALYSIS, SURGERY MAY BE PERFORMED ON THE ARMS OR LEGS TO INSERT GRAFTS OR FISTULAS. THESE ARE CONNECTED TO BLOOD VESSELS AND ALLOW THE DIALYSIS MACHINE TO ACCESS THE PATIENT’S BLOOD. THOSE WITH FISTULAS OR GRAFTS ACTS, AS A CATHETER THAT GOES DIRECTLY INTO A BLOOD VESSEL TO COLLECT THE BLOOD.

THE BLOOD GOES INTO THE MACHINE THAT FILTERS IT, THEN RETURNS CLEAN BLOOD TO THE PATIENT’S BODY. THE BLOOD GOES INTO THE MACHINE THAT FILTERS IT, THEN RETURNS CLEAN BLOOD TO THE PATIENT’S BODY.

IN PERITONEAL DIALYSIS, A SOFT TUBE CALLED A PERITONEAL CATHETER IS PUT INTO THE BELLY BY WAY OF OPERATION. A SOLUTION IS PUT THROUGH THE CATHETER INTO YOUR BELLY. THE INSIDE WALLS OF THE BELLY ARE LINED WITH A MEMBRANE CALLED THE PERITONEUM, WHICH ALLOWS WASTED PRODUCTS AND EXTRA FLUID TO PASS FROM THE BLOOD INTO THE DIALYSIS SOLUTION.

THE WASTE AND FLUID LEAVES THE BODY WHEN THE DIALYSIS SOLUTION IS DRAINED. THE WASTE AND FLUID LEAVES THE BODY WHEN THE DIALYSIS SOLUTION IS DRAINED.

DEFIBRILLATION DEFIBRILLATION IS A TREATMENT FOR THE LIFE THREATENING CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS, VENTRICULAR FIBRILLATION AND PLUSELESS VENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA. SIMPLY PUT, WHEN THE HEART IS NOT BEATING IN THE WAY IT SHOULD BEAT, THE DEFIBRILLATOR ALLOWS IT TO GO BACK TO ITS NORMAL BEAT. ARTIFICIAL PACEMAKER THIS IS A MEDICAL DEVICE WHICH IS USED TO REGULATE THE BEATING OF THE HEART. THE REAL PURPOSE OF A PACEMAKER IS TO KEEP AN ADEQUATE HEART RATE, EITHER BECAUSE THE HEART’S REAL PACE MAKER IS NOT FAST ENOUGH, OR THERE IS A BLOCK IN THE HEART’S ELECTRICAL CONDUCTION SYSTEM. THIS IS SIMPLY THE PROCESS THAT MAKES YOUR HEART BEAT. THIS IS A MEDICAL DEVICE WHICH IS USED TO REGULATE THE BEATING OF THE HEART.
