(IT), IMC Information Multimedia Communication AG (DE), ATOS Origin Sociedad Anonima Española (ES). Objectives The main goal of GRAPPLE is to design and develop a personalized and adaptive Technology Enhanced Learning environment that integrates with major Learning Management Systems using a service-oriented framework approach. The key to creating a responsive learning environment that motivates, engages and inspires learners, and through this leads to better learning results, is personalization, which is achieved through adaptive learning technology. Start / End February 2008 / January TenCompetence event/Sestri Levante

Adaptive Learning Environment & existing LMSs June 14, 2015 Slide 3 TenCompetence event/Sestri Levante Adaptive Learning Environment Service oriented framework Manage user Manage enrollments into courses Administrative workflow management Delivery of learning materials Assessment and evaluations Portfolio management Single Sign On facility (SSO) Providing communication channels User modeling facilities User Profile exchange facilities Adaptation of page content on User Profile pre-knowledge prerequisites preferences Adaptation of page content on device Adaptation of testing tools Collaborative filtering of resources Adaptive guidance

Adaptive Learning Environment functionality GRAPPLE Adaptive Learning Environment – Core engine able to provide to the learner adaptive courses: the adaptation is based on the pre-knowledge, course prerequisites, user’s preferences and device used. GRAPPLE User Model Framework – In charge to manage, store and provide all the shared User Model information. Core user model ontology, conflicting information reconciliation, issues of privacy and trustiness, user model representation to allow student to reflect on his own knowledge. June 14, 2015 Slide 4 TenCompetence event/Sestri Levante

GRAPPLE Authoring Tool – Used by the authors and instructional designers to create an adaptive course (based on the user profile): DM: Domain model, authoring VR Learning Materials and Adaptive Simulations CRT : Conceptual Relation Types CAM : Conceptual Adaptation Model. GRAPPLE VISualization – Available to learners, tutors and teachers to monitor the progress of the class(es) or of the single learner. Application Areas Life Long Learning / Continuous Education – Adaptive Course Material – Virtual Reality – Adaptive Simulation. June 14, 2015 Slide 6 TenCompetence event/Sestri Levante

Possible exploitation of TENCompetence results (I) TenCompetence provides a series of tools such as Personal Development Planner, Personal Competence Manager, LearnWeb 2.0, TenTube. Considerable input for the GRAPPLE User Model Framework in terms of user knowledge/goal model. June 14, 2015 Slide 7 TenCompetence event/Sestri Levante

Possible exploitation of TENCompetence results (II) TenCompetence provides the Learning Path Editor for the creation of the learning paths. Significant synergy between the Learning Design tools and the GRAPPLE Adaptive Learning Environment and Authoring Tool. Possible integration of the adaptive courses in the learning paths: great added-value to the TenCompetence suite with the user profiling, device adaptation and semantic approach introduced by the GRAPPLE solution.
