Present SPECTACLE ISLAND A 30 minute ferry ride from down town Boston leaves visitors wondering why they bothered. Spectacle island is a burden on the economy. Ranks among the ten least national parks visited. Ranks among the ten least national parks visited. Limited uses, attractions, and accessibility contribute to Spectacle Island being an economic drain and tourism “back-water”. While other National Parks, such as Yellow Stone or Yosemite infuse millions into the local economy, Spectacle Island only distracts tourists from other more lucrative attractions. Using Existing Infrastructure and Improvement: A three hundred foot wind generator, tidal turbine, and solar arrays will provide most of the parks energy.
