DEFINITION Biomedical Engineer- Biomedical Engineers are scientists who study how living things work. As an example they might study how the brain uses electrical energy. To become a biomedical engineer you need to meet certain requirements. You need high school science(includes biology, chemistry, and physics). You need four years in college and more for more advanced research. Lastly, in order to direct a research project you need a doctorate.

3 TASKS BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERS DO! Clinical engineer (work in hospitals)-Help doctors in hospitals choose the right technology for patient care. Rehabilitation engineers (work with technology and computers)-Help individuals with disabilities reach toward their maximum potential for an enjoyable and productive life. Biomedical engineers-make man made materials to repair and replace damaged organs.

FAMOUS MAN AND WOMAN IN THIS FIELD. MALE Jonas Salk- He discovered the vaccine for polio in 1955.FEMALE Helen Buettner- Her main thrust is to characterize the kinetics of nerve filopodial extension.

FIRST REASERACH PROJECT COMPUTATIONAL BIOENGINEERING AND BIOMEDICAL IMAGING This is imaging that takes pictures of organs to check the condition of them. Currently they are trying to create better imaging systems. Run by Stanley Dunn and Dimitris Metaxas.

SECOND REASEARCH PROJECT MOLECULAR SYSTEMS BIOENGINEERING They look into genes, structural genomics, bioinformatics and metabolic engineering. It is run by Charles Roth and Casimir Kulikowskoi.

2 JOBS YOU CAN GET FROM BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING A job you can get in biomedical engineering, is a job being a dental laboratory technician. A dental laboratory technician. A dental laboratory technician, make and repair dentures, crowns, and other dental appliances according to dentists’ prescriptions. Another job you can get in biomedical engineering, is a job being an orthotist. Orthotists provide a range of splints, braces, and special footwear to aid movement.

Stanley M Dunn Stanley M. Dunn, is a biomedical engineer at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He is involved, in biomedical image processing, computer vision, digital microscopy, radiology, and pattern recognition. Dunn is recognized, for his seminal studies in digital subtraction radiology.
