Introduction Joseph Kroll (Penn) Franco Bedeschi (INFN Pisa) 10 th CDF B Mixing Workshop 31 January 2006

F. Bedeschi/J. Kroll2 Objective of this Workshop Review status of various components of the analysis Decide on updates for near term (Winter 2006) Make plans with schedule for long term (Summer 2006) New B Lifetime and Mixing subgroup conveners: Sinead Farrington (Liverpool) Guillelmo Gomez-Ceballos (Cantabria) Already making a big difference Speakers have been given explicit instructions: Summarize recent progress, current problems State future activities with schedules Stay within alloted time

31 January 2006F. Bedeschi/J. Kroll3 Conference Schedule 05 – 11 Mar 06: La Thuile 11 – 18 Mar 06: Moriond Electroweak 18 – 25 Mar 06: Moriond QCD 09 – 12 Apr 06: FPCP 2006 (Vancouver) 22 – 25 Apr 06: APS 2006 (Dallas) 22 – 26 May 06: HCP Symposium (Duke) 02 – 08 July 06: BEACH 2006 (Lancaster, UK) 26 Jul – 02 Aug 06: ICHEP 2006 (Moscow) Remember: Fall 2005 update is “new” for Winter 2006

31 January 2006F. Bedeschi/J. Kroll4 Agenda

31 January 2006F. Bedeschi/J. Kroll5 Big Picture (Things we hear about Today) Major updates –Use same-side kaon tagging issue: can we convince ourselves that we understand D from MC –Use partially reconstructed hadronic decays –Add new data (two or three pieces) data up to 4 Sept (410 pb -1 data processed/ntuples available) data up to March 2006 Shutdown (some processed, no ntuples, TOF?) Other changes –Semileptonic decays in combination of 3 trigger paths –Revised resolution lifetime resolution function –Alternatives/additions to amplitude scan –Improved signal selection with neural network

31 January 2006F. Bedeschi/J. Kroll6 Issues for New Data Do we see the expected signal rates? do we need more Monte Carlo? SVT beamlines for simulation dE/dx & TOF calibration revisit electron id for new CPR calibration of opposite side flavor tags Finally: when do we have to be careful about seeing a signal?

31 January 2006F. Bedeschi/J. Kroll7 Schedule We are here Collaboration Meeting La Thuile Moriond Electroweak Moriond QCD = on-week Thursday FPCP 2006 APS 2006 (n.b. off-week meeting planned for 9 Feb 2006)
