Kingfishers Term ‘Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?’ Mathematical development We will be developing our learning through the following units: subtraction methods, measuring length, using suitable equipment to measure, arrays to solve simple multiplication problems. All the above units will include associated word problems. We will also be continuing weekly times tables tests. Communication, Language and Literacy We will be improving our speaking and listening skills through: Talk partners and discussion groups, Philosophy for Children (P4C) and reporting. We will be developing our writing skills through looking at similes and descriptive poetry, reading and writing play scripts, story-making with traditional tales and information texts. We will be using the internet as a research tool. Our main focus will be using detectives; the children will be given weekly tutorials to learn new skills about sending and receiving s. We will also be exploring an animation program to bring our Red Riding Hood story to life! MFL We will be learning how to say the days of the week, months, weather conditions and our colours in French. Creativity We will be developing creativity in all aspects of our curriculum. The focus in art is pattern using Henri Matisse’s work as a stimulus; we are very fortunate to have these lessons taught by our Art expert, Liz Bullock. In DT we will be designing and making a character puppet from our traditional tales. We will be learning to sew! Knowledge and understanding of the world Our continuing Science topic is ‘Forces’. We will be developing our use of the following scientific skills: Observational drawing Prediction Scientific explanation Fair testing Scientific language Explanations using scientific knowledge. Personal, Social and Emotional development Our SEAL topic for this term is ‘ Getting on and falling out. We will be focusing on the following skills: Using a friendly voice to share a compliment Understanding what triggers my anger Finding a peaceful solution The concept of a win win situation Finding ways to resolve conflicts that can be used in class In RE, we will be focusing on the significance of the friendship and how Jesus’ teachings encourage this skill. In anti-bullying week we will be focussing on verbal bullying and how to deal with this in school and at home. We will be linking our ideas to how the 3 little pigs could deal with the big bad wolf. Learning We will be developing our discussion skills with a focus on how we can become better learners. We will be focusing on which learning muscles we use in various learning situations. We will continue to strive to achieve our class charter’s aims We will be continuing to develop our curiosity and questioning skills through philosophy and science. The children will be concentrating on improving their collaborative skills with each other and becoming more independent learners. Physical Development Our learning focus for this term will be practising, performing and evaluating our work in Gymnastics and Tag Rugby. The children will be developing their skills of handling the ball and learning simple tactics and rules. Y3 will be continuing their swimming programme, focussing on stroke development and stamina.
