4 Organizing Main Points Supporting Materials Connectives

5 Main Points The major points developed in the body of a speech. Most speeches contain from two to five main points.

6 Supporting Materials The materials used to support a speaker’s ideas. The tree major kinds of supporting materials are examples, statistics, and testimony.

7 Connectives A word of phrase that connects the ideas of a speech and indicates the relationship between them.

8 The Importance of Outlining Ideas are related Ideas are flowing one another The structure of the speech is coherent

10 The Preparation Outline State the specific purpose of your speech Identify the central idea Label the introduction, body and conclusion Use a consistent pattern of symbolization and indentation State main points and sub points in full sentences Label transition, internal summaries and internal previews Attach a bibliography Give your speech a title, if one is desired
