Mission October Your mission, should you decide to accept it……….

Mission October Your Mission is to assess all aspects of water use in Tucson Arizona including historical trends and predictions and to propose a plan for the next 100 years.

Mission October Tucson, Arizona, USA

Tucson water facts Tucson is developing a Long Range Water Resource Plan that will help determine where water will come from in the future, how much it will cost, and what its quality will be. Tucson has three water sources – groundwater, Colorado River water, and effluent (treated wastewater). 44 billion gallons each year is allocated to Tucson from the Central Arizona Project Current use is about 20 billion gallons of Colorado River water a year. Clearwater Renewable Resource Facility.

MISSION October 15 Team 1: Management of the Colorado River--how does Arizona divide it up--future demands water quality! Can Tucson have more?

MISSION October 15 Team 2: Climate change and population trends in Tucson area Population trends Where does water come from now? What are the predictions for water use in next 100 years.

MISSION October Team 3: Trans-boundary issues: Mexico/United States Free Trade agreement Current state of water in boundary region

MISSION October Team 4: Irrigation----farming, environmental degradation, pecans? Arizona Legislature passed the Groundwater Management Act (GMA) in 1980, a law that regulates current and future water use and requires water resource planning. Can farmers afford CAP water ?

MISSION October Team 5: The state of groundwater reserves: water quality? How affected by over pumping

MISSION October Team 6: Desalinization and sewage treatment: recycling water in Tucson How effective? Costs?

MISSION October Team 7: Water and mining in greater Tucson area--modern and legacy. Water quality Power plants?

MISSION October Team 8: Economics of water: Privatization of water supplies and sewage treatment? Implementation and enforcement of conservation, How much can we charge for water?
