History & Archive Why are we doing this? n My Personal Reasons n School’s unique and long history n Capture and preserve before Grangegorman move n Marketing tool –Solid & proven foundation in engineering education –Take advantage of our history; open day, website, DVD etc n Show respect and appreciation for the work carried out by staff in the past; our colleagues & friends n Moral responsibility to preserve the story of the school and its people for future generations

History & Archive What are we doing? n Collect, catalogue and preserve –Material such as books, articles, reports, prospectuses, photographs etc –Electronic hardware; test equipment, valves, tubes etc n Room 416 – archival room n Contact people inside and outside the school –Retired staff –Current staff & past students –CDVEC n Search DIT library, National Archives, Newspaper archives n Visitor’s book, Display Cabinets n A written chronological story of the school

History & Archive Your school needs you!! n Books, publications, prospectuses, leaflets, brochures n Photographs n Stories n Speak to friends, family and colleagues n Keep your ears and eyes open

History & Archive Today is tomorrows history n Project has no definite end date n Process in place to record and archive the school’s current position on an on-going basis n Leave OUR story behind for future generations n DIT has a moral responsibility to record and preserve the history of the institute n Project may give DIT the impetus to initiate an institute wide program to record and save an important part of Dublin’s educational and SOCIAL history
