Palomar Transient Factory P48 as transient discovery engine –New, wide-field visible imager (MOSAIC) –New data analysis pipeline and archive (c. IPAC) P60 as photometer machine P200 for critical spectroscopy (DBSP, Triplespec)

P48 MOSAIC camera Based on CFH12K prime focus camera –Increase speed of readout electronics –Re-level the focal plane mosaic –Re-engineer the thermal control system –New field flattening entrance window –New instrument mount to P48 –Improved P48 image quality and tracking

P48 MOSAIC camera Requirements document complete Mechanical model of instrument nearly complete Thermal design in progress Readout speed improvements in progress Major procurements (in next 2 weeks) –Automated shutter –Cryotiger cooler –Field flattener –New g’ filter –Focal plane metrology system Delivery goal end of September 2008; 1st light Nov ‘08
