Principles of Good Graphs  Open and examine good_bad_charts.xls  Correct data  Legible  Meaning is clear  Proper titles and labels  Professional appearance  Appropriate sourcing and notes

Excel Chart Types  Column  Bar  Line Pie (Plain and exploding)  X-Y Scatter Chart  Area  Doughnut  Radar  Surface  Bubble  Stock  Cylinder, Cone, Pyramid

Change Chart Type  Open ChartType.xls  Select the chart  Right click  Select chart type  Explore the different types  Select different features on the chart and edit them E.g. plot area, colors, fonts, titles, etc.

Exploding Pie  Open ExplodePie.xls  Select one slice and pull it away from the pie  Select the entire pie  Right click  Format data series  Explore data label options

Adding a Trendline to a Graph  Open AddTrendline.xls  Select the block of data  Insert  Chart  Create a bar chart with months on the horizontal axis and dollar values on the vertical axis  Select the “Rent” series  Right click on “Rent series”  Add a Trendline  Explore the features of this function

Adding a Series to an Existing Chart  Open AddDataSeries.xls  Navigate to the “Chart” tab  Select the chart  Right click  Source Data  Navigate to the “Series” tab  Click “Add Series”  Use the dialogue boxes to add the series title and to link to the “Landscape” data

Multiple Chart Types within a Single Chart  Open MultipleCharts.xls  Select a data series  Right click  Chart type  Change chart type
