Over View of CASCADES-2 Fields Data

VLF Data Only presenting from the AFT payload Mostly the sphere-to-sphere channels Future Work –Interpayload interferometry –Wave-form examination Preliminary Result (not shown) –LHSS/density structures during active regions

Attitude Determination Results Data are projected into a local VEN frame where V is aligned with the magnetic field and E and N are in the plane perpendicular to the magnetic field –Easy to Convert from E-field to B-field via E x B V VEN ~= 25000*[0, E n, -E E ] (E in V/m) Attitude and Boom position is determined from an extension of Todd Humphries filter/smoother developed for SIERRA Action Item for future rockets – improved sun- sensor calibration

Despun DC-E Field Overview Data presented are only from the Sphere- to-Sphere Channels Only Available data are from 270s-end of flight due to sun sensor availability There remains +/-10 mV/m of payload motion related signal –Possible Causes Magnetometer mounting errors Boom model assumptions

Coherency Analysis Questions Are Fourier Techniques most appropriate? –Question to Jon, what is your experience with wavelet transforms (AMICIST, and more recent satellite work)?

Magnetometer Data Data are calibrated via the non-linear least squares code developed my Mark Psiaki and Eric Klatt and successfully used on SIERRA I’ve taken many approaches high pass filtering, sine- wave fitting, and cubic-spline fitting Sine wave fitting didn’t work, my guess is due to payload motion Filtering and spline fitting had similar results Data presented are from the spline-fitting technique –Downsampled data, fit to cubic-splines, subtracted fit from calibrated data DeltaE/DeltaB ~1-2e6 m/s for Periods of Interest

Poynting Flux Estimates Two Approaches Taken –Apply Attitude Solution to 3-d deltaB sc mag data and calculate 1/mu_0(deltaExdeltaB) in VEN coordinates Yielded Better agreement between payloads Data Shown are from this technique –Filter DC E data in and calculate 1/mu_0(deltaExdeltaB) in Space Craft Coordinates Very Bizarre, often anti-correlated interpayload comparisons – not shown here

Plasma Velocity Calculations DC E-field data are low pass filtered <.1Hz Large Velocity Shear present at ~640s
