Presentation transcript:

E-learning design and implementation: The student perspective The University of Hertfordshire Victoria Stringer 1 To save time on introductions.. I’m a final year student at the University of Hertfordshire, I came onto the Bsc IT (web based systems) course as a direct entrant following completion of an FDsc IT for multimedia course at West Herts College in Watford.

What, when, why and who with? What Topic? Is it self directed, independent study? Group study? Research based?Practical work? Communication style? Is there time to learn a new way of doing things? 2 What’s wrong with the way we do things now?

PUT SLIDES UP WELL IN ADVANCE OF LECTURES “One thing is put slides up before lecture so I can read it before lecture and terp (interpreter) can prepare cos some tech words have no sign and some words terp doesn't know what it means and needs to ask around other terps to find out sign for before lecture. If nothing else then terp and me can decide on agreed sign for that lecture only; a made up one. A lot of them (tutors and interpreters) think it’s simple like English translates into English signs which it doesn't. 3

Profoundly deaf student..For the cognitively challenged, for people who learn better by reading than listening, for people who need to use a screen reader and may not find it as easy to use audio software to access the recording.. (The list of positive reasons for using audio and transcriptions could take up the rest of this slide and more besides..) 8
