A Horse With Two Names Rienzi was a magnificent horse given as a gift to Sheridan. Rienzi carried Sheridan from Winchester, VA to a major battle in the Shenandoah Valley. The horse was renamed Winchester in honor of the victory. Winchester was a major part of Abraham Lincoln’s political campaign for a 2 nd term as president.
