Ad Hoc Steering Committee for WPA Report on Writing Programs Outcomes from meetings, September 2 and 16 Reviewed responses from survey of Writing Programs teachers Reviewed and revised a draft of a Writing Programs Mission Statement Began matching report’s recommendations with responsibilities of new or existing committees, groups, and individuals

Ad Hoc Steering Committee for WPA Report on Writing Programs Revised Timeline for Fall 2010 Goal: December 2010 have a coordinated calendar (3-5 yr plan) for work addressing all recommendations September-early October: match individual recommendations and sub-recommendations to existing or new committees and groups for discussion, research, planning, and action as appropriate Mid-Late October: develop specific requests/ charges for other groups’ work on recommendations November– early December – assist with and coordinate other groups as needed in order to develop a shared calendar for action

Director of Second Language Writing  Teach English 591 Teaching Second Language Writing once every academic year  Mentor TAs who are teaching English 107 and 108 lead staff meetings for all 107 and 108 teachers.  Design professional development related to SLW for Writing Programs Teachers.  Work with Director of Writing Programs and Program Manager to determine staffing and scheduling of WAC 107, Eng 107 and Eng 108  Direct curriculum review and development for Writing Programs’ offerings for SL writers  Direct and supervise research relevant to Writing Programs’ curricula for SL writersrs. Recommendations o 1.a Multiple tenure-line and tenured faculty involvement in Writing Programs leadership o 1.c.Tenured faculty direction of preparation of graduate students as teachers of writing and as the future professoriate o 1.d. Tenured faculty direction for professional development of contract faculty who teach writing. o 1.e. Tenured faculty involvement in developing and assessing undergraduate writing curriculum o 4: Development of research (inquiry) focus for the Writing Programs.
