KFUPM History l The College of Petroleum & Minerals was established in September l The status of the College was changed in 1975 to “University of Petroleum & Minerals”. l The University was renamed to King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in 1986.

ACADEMIC SYSTEM The academic system at KFUPM is similar to the American model with the following features: l Semester System : (Academic year is divided into 2 Semesters of 16 weeks each + Summer session of 8 weeks). Average time for graduation is 4 years. l Credit Hour System (1 Credit = weekly 50 minutes lectures or 100 minute lab or field study)
Undergraduate Admission Requirements l Secondary school certificate (12 years) or equivalent with good standing l Passing two entrance examination 1. General Aptitude Test conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education 2. Subject Tests conducted by KFUPM
PREPARATORY PROGRAM The University’s one year Preparatory Program before starting the undergraduate study is intended to improve: l the proficiency of English, l knowledge of Mathematical and Analytical Techniques, l mental and manual skills with introduction of new subject areas and l familiarize with the various majors for selection of their choice.

Self Assessment The objectives of self-assessment at KFUPM are to: 1.Improve and maintain academic standards 2.Enhance students’ learning. 3.Verify that the existing programs meet their objectives and institutional goals. 4.Provide feedback for quality assurance of academic programs. 5.Prepare the academic program for accreditation.
