The Plot Diagram Climax Rising Action Falling Action Conflict Exposition: information the author gives you at the beginning of the story. Setting (ie. Time, date, mood, place) Rising Action: A plot usually begins with a problem which the protagonist must meet or solve. During the story, tension is built through a series of complications, incidents which either help or hinder the protagonist in finding a solution. Conflict: the struggle between the protagonist and an opposing force Climax: the peak or turning point of the action; at this point we know the outcome Falling Action: provides any necessary explanation Resolution: at the end of the story, the sense that it is complete.
