EDU 397F Introductions Student Information Sheet Syllabus Worksheet Pre-test Music Skills Assessment

Student Information Sheet Please fill out the Student Information Sheet I will NOT ask you to play or sing individually but please let me know if you have ever played an instrument, even for a short time. I will NOT ask you to play or sing individually but please let me know if you have ever played an instrument, even for a short time. Please note that if you are musically proficient and can read music that you might be interested in taking EDU 397I Fall 10 instead of EDU 397F. This course is for music majors, and is more extensive and covers teaching general, vocal and instrumental music. Please see me if you want to substitute EDU 397I for EDU 397F. You need to become familiar with the Desire to Learn (D2L) online system as we will be using that for handing in assignments and grading. We’ll have a lab in the future on how to use it.

Syllabus Worksheet I am amazed at the number of students who don’t read the syllabus (although I sympathize with the length). You should have followed the brief orientation to the syllabus today. Now please fill out the syllabus worksheet so I know there is no miscommunication regarding the expectations of this course. You can access my course electronic syllabus at Click on Courses and then on the red EDU 397F Click on Courses and then on the red EDU 397F

Pre-Test Music Skills Assessment Many (if not most) of you might not be able to complete much of this music skills assessment. This is expected so don’t panic (just wait ‘til you take it later in the semester…you’ll be surprised at how much you’ve learned!). You can leave when you have handed in the assessment…

FOR NEXT CLASS: You need to purchase the textbook; we will use it almost every class. If you buy a used one please make sure it has a cardboard musical keyboard included. READ CHAPTER 1. You also need to buy a bluebook for Tuesday. You will receive an from me this week…please reply so that I know we are “connected.” We will be using the MSU-B Desire to Learn (D2L) server (only this class can get into the folder)...please check that you can access this. Instructions are on my electronic syllabus ( ) See you Tuesday!

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.” Billy Joel
