Baby cord dressing

Definition: It is the technique by which the umbilical cord of the newborn infant is weaned. It aims at proper and complete healing of the umbilical cord as well as guarding against infection

Objectives: To ensure complete and proper healing of the umbilical cord of the newborn. To observe abnormalities of the cord such as bleeding, infection, hernia and abnormalities in the vein and arteries. To prevent infection.

Indications: It is indicated during early postpartum days for all newborn infants until the cord drops off.

Equipment:  2 sterile small iodine bowls.  Sterile cotton sponges.  Antiseptic solution, alcohol 60%  Sterile dressing.  Sterile forceps and\or gloves.  Ordered medicine if required  Paper bag or kidney basin.
