Never Pay Retail Again Jessica Dickler By: Dana Town Michael Lang Derek Hunter

Tough Times  Consumers are facing are hard times  Many people are struggling just to buy the basics for their families like gas and food  As a result, consumers are on the hunt for the best deals possible

Coupon Craze  Can get access to online coupons and discount codes Currentcodes.com  Sellers are offering more coupons now, just to get people to buy  Also using comparison services to find the best deal  In a survey, 63% said they won’t make a purchase unless a deal is invovled

Hidden Discounts  Many stores offer price matching policies and will even undercut competitors  Not just discount stores that are resorting to these policies  Not always expressly stated that retailers offer these discounts

Haggling and Imperfect Merchandise  Haggling is now being used among mass retailers  Can get products for a significantly cheaper price if they are “out of the box”  Mostly used among electronics

What does this all mean?  As the economy worsens, more and more consumers are likely to start using these techniques  The effects are already being felt as many retailers have been reporting decreases in sales  Doesn’t seem like its going to get better anytime soon
