An Introduction to the Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) by Vickie Dickneite PPP Center

Show-Me Standards Grade Level Expectations Frameworks for Curriculum Development

Show-Me Standards  Define what Missouri students should know and be able to do by the time they graduate from high school.

 Serve as a blueprint for schools to write challenging curriculum to help all students achieve.

Frameworks for Curriculum Development  Complement the Show-Me Standards.

 Describe what kinds of content and skills schools should emphasize.

 Provide sample learning activities.  Many of the Frameworks were developed using PPP’s Continuum of Development Chart.

For complete Missouri Frameworks for Curriculum Development, go to Sample of Frameworks Please refer to VI. Geometric and Spatial Sense Handout (page 7)

Grade Level Expectations  Known as GLEs  Guide teachers’ lesson planning.

 Better identify what is expected of students at each grade level.

GLEs in Communication Arts & Mathematics Arranged by  Strand  Big Idea  Concept  Grade Level

Communication Arts W2F Strand: W=Writing

Big Idea: 2=Compose well-developed text using standard English conventions

Concept: F=Sentence Construction Grade Level: (not chosen)

Why Involve Parents? Communication between home and school make our children better learners.

Sharing curriculum & GLEs informs parents and adds value to your program.

Lessons can be reinforced at home through every day activities.

Let’s try it! Kindergarten Lesson 6- Outer Space Communication Arts R2BK

R=Reading 2=Develop & apply skills... B=Literary Devices K=Kindergarten

If you think the GLE was: “Respond to rhythm, rhyme and alliteration in oral reading of poetry and prose.” YOU’RE RIGHT!

Here’s to Good People May we KNOW them. May we BE them. May we RAISE them!
