1. Analysis2. Design 3. Develop 4. Implement 5. Evaluate Basic Steps of Instructional Design (ADDIE) 1. Analysis - What are the end-user (audience) characteristics? Scope project timeline, budget, project complexity. 2. Design - Evaluate and organize content. Define graphical assets and e-learning medium characteristics. Apply instructional strategies, design user interface, create a prototype and run a pilot for prototype to collect end-user feedback. 3. Develop – Create deliverable with appropriate development tools using information gathered in steps 1 and Implement: Ensure that end- users have appropriate instructions to access and use the deliverable and work towards maximum usability within the hosting environment. 5. Evaluate – Gather feedback from end- users and iterate process to improve deliverable. EESC, Rev. 12/4/2009

Basic Analysis (Qualification) Questions to Ask Who is your target audience: approximate age, familiarity with web-based learning, Internet connectivity, motivation for viewing the content? When does this project need to be completed? Who will do the production work and how much time can you allocate each week to help with the development of the deliverable? How much of the content is already created? Would you be open to formatting your content for a web-based medium? Are you familiar with what this entails? What do you think the interest and need is for a deliverable like the one you are proposing? Have you found any examples that resemble your proposed project? What are your intended instructional outcomes? Do you have some high-level learning objectives? If not, do you intend on creating these? What is your budget? Do you have any prior experience with web-based learning or this type of project? Who are the key stakeholders? What are their expectations for the deliverable? How does this project relate to your professional goals? Which department(s) have a stake or interest in this project? EESC, Rev. 12/4/2009
