Categories

Value of ECS Operational employees can work together more Easily and Effectively Avoid traveling (telephone or video conferencing) Enhanced coordination (document merging, calendaring, scheduling, workflow systems) Enhanced collaboration (project management tools, discussion forums, instant messaging, etc.)

Value of ECS Knowledge Management A great deal of knowledge is exchanged during normal communication and collaboration processes. In some sense and ECS can manage that knowledge, i.e., recording it, distributing it, organizing it. Example: I forgot how to configure MySQL, but I can search my past and find the message send by our system administrator, which describes what I need to do.

NHL Example 30 Teams Hundreds of Journalists 60 Workstations 2 Servers Teams sends a request for a player to a central registry Upon approval, draft choices are displayed on Jumbo Display Player bio’s, stats, and scouting reports are integrated into the system NHL uses a workflow system built from Lotus Notes (Domino) Used on Draft Day

Other Forms of ECS Blog Spheres such as MySpace are ECS’s for non-business communication Blackboard is technically an ECS Content or Document Management Systems Siena could benefit from one... Centralize content and documents for the website.
