 Born September 1, 1950 in Vinita, Oklahoma.  Attended Shawnee Mission North High School in Mission, Kansas.  Got a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas after being injured on a football scholarship at the University of Tulsa.  Four years later; master’s degree in experimental psychology and a Ph. D in clinical psychology at the University of North Texas.  Been married twice, his present wife is Robin McGraw; two sons named Jay and Jordan.

 Realized private practice wasn’t for him.  Seminar “Pathways”  After leaving private practice he then founded Courtroom Sciences, Inc.  As the president of CSI, he advised Fortune 500 companies and injured plaintiffs alike in achieving settlements.  This venture helped trial lawyers build cases using psychology by conducting mock trials, behavioral analysis, jury selection, and mediation.

 Through Courtroom Sciences Dr. Phil met Oprah Winfrey in  In helping Oprah with the trial, she became impressed with his work and their victory that soon after she invited him to appear on her show.  His appearance on the show was such a success that he began appearing weekly as a “Relationship and Life Strategy Expert” on Tuesdays starting in April of  On September 16, 2002, he launched his own daily television show called Dr. Phil, produced by Oprah’s production company Harpo Studios.

Oprah says, “His directness, his frankness, his ability to cut to the chase, his ability to reason, his ability to make common sense out of things that seem nonsensical is really what you get with Phil. He is good at what he does-the best I’ve ever seen.”

Now in its sixth season, the Dr. Phil show is known to be the second highest rated daytime talk show in the nation. This year, Dr. Phil was nominated for a daytime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Talk Show Host.”
