Freshmen Academy

 Adhere to class policies ◦ No late work! ◦ Know deadlines for work when absent  Use a daily planner ◦ Keep track of ALL assignments and due dates ◦ Invite parents to check planner ◦ $5 at the bookstore

 Homework ◦ Complete all homework  Neatly: Homework that cannot be read = No grade.  Clearly: Homework without a name = No grade.  Honestly: “We did it together” = No grade.  Timely: Procrastination = Poor grades.  Accurately: Grades are seldom given for completion only!  Tutoring ◦ Take advantage of tutors available during lunch. ◦ Take advantage of tutoring times offered by teachers.  Grades ◦ Check online- Infinite campus is up and running. ◦ Communicate with teachers if there are discrepancies

 Visit the library; read a book  Sit with someone new at lunch  Converse with the student next to them in a class  Introduce themselves to a staff member, i.e. security guard, custodian, or office staff  Attend a school play  Attend a school athletic event  Attend a school music or dance concert  Join a club  Volunteer outside of the school day  Show gratitude  Smile!

 Respect ◦ Obey classroom and school rules ◦ Never cheat ◦ Cooperate with teachers and classmates ◦ Follow “The Golden Rule” of “doing unto others” ◦ Honor others in their challenges and triumphs ◦ Take responsibility for your actions

 Avoid falling into the same traps of first semester:  Not studying or being poorly prepared  Copying people’s homework  Procrastination and tardiness  Unexcused absences  Not asking questions in class  AND NOT COMING IN FOR HELP!!!!

 Second semester typically is tougher than the first, they use the skills and knowledge gained in first semester for all of second semester. So please stay on your student, if you find they are struggling, please contact us immediately.  They must have a positive attitude to do well!  Limit their social media, they can become “over-saturated” with technology.  Be involved in your student’s success in and out of school!
