MicroStation V8 Bentley Systems MicroStation and its related products, are intended to work together for creating, editing, and publishing of design. It is fully interoperabe with DWG files. Bentley’s latest version of MicroStation

DesignJet 100 and 120 Printer Series HP The DesignJet 100 model is a color printer for large formats that can print 4-color documents at a speed of up to 11 pages per minute, the DesignJet 120 (pictured at right) has six-color capability. Hp's DesignJet 120 is best for occasional large- format color prints.

Architectural Studio 3 Autodesk The interface replicates pens and markers to translucent paper with a graph pattern that can be laid over existing photos or drawings for idea development. The user can either sketch freehand or work with shape and line tools. It has also a snapshot tool that can select portions of other files, such as CAD drawings or photos. HP's DesignJet 120 is best for occasional large- format color prints.

Built-in collaboration abilities let designers work on the same project together in real time. Architectural Studio 3 now has tools for creating 3D objects.

BOA BOA Research Corporation BOA lets designers model their buildings directly in 3D, from which they can extract 2D plans, elevations, and sections as needed. A designer can define two object types within BOA: blocks and frames. Blocks are user- defined volumetric building components, such as walls; frames are inserted to represent openings in the blocks, such as doors and windows. BOA’s blocks are generic until a designer assigns them properties to make them the components they represent.

BOA’s 3D CAD is targeted to the AEC market. the user can view a model from any angle or zoom position, and allows easy switching between 3D views and plans or sectional cuts.

ZiPCAD 123-D Software ZiPCAD is a mobile CAD program, allows import and export of DXF files, and creating on-the-fly as-builts. It uses common CAD functions like layers and line types and editing tools.

SpaceNavigator and SpaceTraveler 3D Connexion The researches indicates that productivity increases up to 30 percent when using two hands rather than one for design tasks. The SpaceNavigator keyboard, has a trackball-like device built into its left side.

Users can scroll and zoom in on documents with the left hand on a trackball-like device, freeing the right hand for using the mouse. The SpaceTraveler works with portable computers.

SketchBook Pro Alias (formerly Alias Wavefront) SketchBook Pro is a sketchpad software with a customizable collection of pens, markers, and brushes. The drawing tools are pressure-sensitive: the harder you press on the screen with the pen, the darker the resulting stroke. The interface is a simple artist’s palette. The software allows designers to create layers and undo up to 20 previous penstrokes.

SketchBook Pro’s pressure-sensitive pens “draw” darker the harder they are pressed on the screen.

QuadriSpace Presenter 2.3 QuadriSpace This software creates multimedia presentations that integrates visuals, text, and sound. QuadriSpace interface is divided into two areas: one for viewing images and models imported into the software, and one for tools that put together presentations.

A viewer allows those who don’t own the software to see presentations on their own computers, though the file types handled by the software are limited to DWG, DXF, and 3DS.

BEES 3.0 National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) BEES is a building guide for environmental and economic sustainability. This software was developed by NIST with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Users enter information about a project, including location, size, and selected materials. It assesses the environmental performance of a design based on the life-cycle approach, and the economic performance for life-cycle cost analysis.

Both analyses are combined to create an overall performance measure. The latest version includes historical performance data for nearly 200 building products. BEES 3.0 helps architects design green buildings.

Solibri Model Checker (SMC) Solibri This tool checks building models against customizable criteria such as component dimensions and interrelationships to determine problems with a design before they are discovered during construction. There is a viewing area showing information about the model, the constraints checked, and the problems found during the analysis; and a second for seeing the model at various angles.

Areas where conflicts or potential problems are detected within the Solibri model checker are highlighted for easy viewing. Solibri works with models developed or corrected in software such as ArchiCAD and Microsoft Visio, and then rechecked in the software.
