XMM-Newton 1SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations 1) Current Operations Status 2) Eclipse preparation improvements 3) Slew Exposures 4) Offset Calculation Handling 5) New NCRs

XMM-Newton 2SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations CURRENT OPERATIONS STATUS Recent achievement: New EMDH Image successfully loaded 1) No more “HBR Data Mixed” problems (XMM-NC-VIL-0014 fixed) 2) No more “Rejected TCs” problems (XMM-NC-VIL-0009 fixed) 3) No more “Filter Wheel Moving” problems (XMM-NC-VIL-0003 fixed) Now: No major problems observed in Routine Phase (GT/GO)

XMM-Newton 3SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations ECLIPSE PREPARATION ENHANCEMENT (1/2) Target: improve efficiency of the mission by reducing the instruments Switch-On duration. Last eclipse season: 9 hours to switch ON all the instruments. Objective for next eclipse season: < 3 hours.

XMM-Newton 4SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations ECLIPSE PREPARATION ENHANCEMENT (2/2) How to make it possible? Parallel Operations (MOS1//MOS2, PN//OM, RGS1//RGS2) Automated commanding with generation of new PTV/CEV FW sync operation shortened for MOS1 and MOS2 RAM loads: as sequences (no use of the RAM loader anymore), RAM loads execution in parallel.

XMM-Newton 5SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations SLEW EXPOSURES Make the slew duration be “useful” time Proposed: MOS Full Frame in Closed CAL PN Last config in Closed CAL Possible: Slew Survey

XMM-Newton 6SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations OFFSET CALCULATION HANDLING (1/2) For MOS CAMERAS only: Fixed offset tables are planed to be used for all filter wheel positions (next database release). Tables corresponding to the LW, SW and FF modes. Only Timing mode and Full Frame Two Nodes mode require offset calculation. For MOS and PN: RCR 072 is now implemented PHS enables one to choose an activity based on the FW position and the optical counts (MOS), X-RAY counts (PN).

XMM-Newton 7SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations OFFSET CALCULATION HANDLING (2/2) For PN only: New PN CLOSED CAL FF activity implemented to cope with the scientists request to download CCD noise data sets.

XMM-Newton 8SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations OPEN POINTS Do we plan to use the implemented facility (RCR072) on the PHS? How long can we use the current offset tables? How often will the offset tables be updated in the future?

XMM-Newton 9SCI-SA Status of MOS and PN Realtime Operations NEW NCRs Unexplained HBR FIFO FULL on MOS 2 MOS 2 Buffer Manager / counting mode failure EPIC MOS 2 timing mode exposure with regular noise pattern
